Amundi completes $712 million ICG stake as Asian wealth centres compete for family capital

Wealth and Society examines how private-market distribution, family-office competition and intergenerational services shaped the week, as Amundi, HSBC and Asian financial institutions expanded investment access and broader advisory propositions for wealthy clients.

Amundi completed its investment in ICG as the two groups prepared to distribute private-market products to wealth clients, while HSBC extended its direct-investment platform to Singapore. Hong Kong announced further measures intended to attract funds and family offices, and banks in Singapore and Vietnam expanded their philanthropy, succession and family-governance propositions. Consolidation also continued among US wealth and family-office firms, while two technology providers brought an artificial intelligence platform developed inside a multi-family office to market.

The 10 developments are ranked by scale, relevance and implications for private wealth:

Amundi completes $712 million investment in ICG

Amundi completed a EUR 620 million  (about $712 million) investment for a 9.9% economic stake in ICG on 17 September, finalising the strategic partnership originally announced in November 2025. The firms also entered a 10-year agreement making Amundi the exclusive global distributor of ICG's evergreen and other private-market products to wealth investors outside the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The partnership combines ICG's $126 billion in assets under management (AUM) with Amundi's distribution through banks, advisers and pension channels. Its significance lies less in the minority stake than in the attempt to bring institutional private-market strategies into wealth portfolios at scale. The first jointly developed product, a private-equity secondaries fund, is expected to launch within weeks.

HSBC Private Bank extends Access platform to Singapore's ultra-wealthy

HSBC Private Bank launched HSBC Access in Singapore on 15 September, giving ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) and family-office clients access to private-market investments, including direct deals, co-investments and venture capital funds sourced through HSBC's corporate, institutional and innovation banking businesses. Singapore is the platform's second market after its June launch in Hong Kong.

The proposition links HSBC's corporate and institutional relationships with its private bank, broadening investment opportunities for wealthy clients. New private-bank relationships referred by HSBC's corporate and institutional banking arm rose by more than 50% year on year across Asia in the first half of 2026, and close to two-thirds of the private bank's Singapore clients are entrepreneurs.

Hong Kong sets out further measures to attract funds and family offices

Hong Kong's 2026 Policy Address, released on 16 September, set out further measures intended to strengthen the city as an international asset and wealth-management centre. The government said it wants more funds and family offices to establish a presence in Hong Kong and increase the amount of global capital managed in the city.

The address covered preferential tax treatment for funds, single-family offices and carried interest, alongside measures to deepen offshore renminbi business and expand fixed-income and commodity trading. The direction reinforces Hong Kong's competition with other Asian wealth centres, but the practical effect will depend on the eligibility rules and implementation timetable, which were not specified in the address.

Bank of Singapore launches bespoke donor-advised fund platform

Bank of Singapore launched Legacy of Giving on 16 September, giving clients access to donor-advised funds (DAFs) offered by the Community Foundation of Singapore and TT Foundation Advisers. The platform combines the private bank's philanthropy advice, wealth planning and investment management with grant-making DAFs, pre-approved bank-managed portfolios and funds.

Its main differentiator is a bespoke arrangement that allows clients with larger pools of philanthropic capital to help shape the fund's investment approach. Bank of Singapore said this is the first such arrangement in Singapore involving a private bank and two independent philanthropic organisations. The structure extends the private bank's role from advising on charitable giving to managing capital earmarked for future grants.

Techcombank launches wealth model for private banking clients

Techcombank launched Techcom Wealth for private banking clients at its investment summit in Hanoi on 19 September. The model is structured around three stages: creation, covering business development and asset accumulation; preservation, covering wealth structuring and risk management; and transfer, covering succession in ownership, governance and family values.

The framework reflects Techcombank's effort to move beyond premium banking towards advice spanning business, family and succession needs, particularly relevant as Vietnam's expanding pool of business owners confronts intergenerational wealth transfer. The bank has not disclosed client or asset targets for the new offering, leaving adoption as the principal measure of progress.

Asia REIT market grows 18% as China and India drive listings

Asia's real estate investment trust (REIT) market reached a combined value of $279.4 billion across 289 active products as at 31 March 2026, up 18% from the end of 2024, according to Cushman & Wakefield's Asia REIT Market Insight 2025-2026 report published on 21 September. The Chinese mainland accounted for 21 of the region's 27 new listings, while India's market value rose 62% to $17.7 billion, overtaking Hong Kong to become Asia's fourth-largest market.

The expansion broadens the income-producing real estate opportunity set available to wealth clients, though it also raises the importance of asset quality as new vehicles enter the market. Cushman & Wakefield said asset quality, operational efficiency and environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance are becoming more important differentiators.

AlphaCore acquires Streamline and expands family-office services

AlphaCore Wealth Advisory acquired Streamline Family Office on 15 September and rebranded the Dover, Massachusetts firm as AlphaCore Streamline. AlphaCore manages more than $10 billion in client assets, while Streamline's 15-person team coordinates the affairs of UHNW families with nearly $5 billion in collective assets. Streamline operates separately from investment advice and portfolio management, focusing instead on the financial, operational and day-to-day needs of client families.

The deal follows AlphaCore's 2025 acquisition of Brave Family Advisors and its move into tax preparation through SPC Financial, showing how advisory firms are adding non-investment services to deepen relationships with complex wealthy families over time.

NewEdge Wealth adds UBS team advising on $1.25 billion

NewEdge Capital Group opened its 22nd NewEdge Wealth office in Wayzata, Minnesota, on 15 September, anchored by an eight-member team that joined from UBS and advises on more than $1.25 billion in client assets. James Shafer joined as managing director and Michael Block as principal, leading a team serving UHNW and high-net-worth (HNW) families, family offices and institutional clients.

The recruitment extends NewEdge's expansion after office openings in Ohio, Florida and Texas since August, taking the firm to more than 70 UHNW advisers across 22 locations nationwide, and illustrates continuing competition among established US wealth management firms for experienced teams.

GenTrust and Verapath commercialise wealth platform built in-house

Verapath and GenTrust announced a joint venture on 16 September to offer VIRA, a wealth-management platform combining customer relationship management, financial planning, portfolio, tax and reporting functions with artificial intelligence (AI). GenTrust, a multi-family office managing nearly $6 billion for UHNW families from New York, Miami and Puerto Rico, developed the platform's predecessor for its own operations.

The venture turns an internal operating system into a commercial product, while Verapath will provide governance and security infrastructure for regulated users. That operating history gives the platform a practical foundation, but the companies have not disclosed external clients or evidence showing how its AI improves adviser productivity, investment decisions or client outcomes.

Paragon Capital Management names inaugural chief commercial officer

Paragon Capital Management appointed Trevor Lau as its inaugural chief commercial officer on 21 September as the multi-asset manager seeks to expand its client franchise and partnerships across Asia. Lau has more than two decades of experience in private banking, wealth management and investment advisory, including roles at Credit Suisse, UBS, Citigroup Private Bank and Azura Investment Partners.

He will lead business development, capital raising and client engagement across Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. Paragon manages more than SGD 1.5 billion (about $1.17 billion) and serves accredited investors, family offices and institutional clients across public and private markets, marking the firm's first dedicated commercial leadership role.

What to watch next

Amundi and ICG's private-equity secondaries fund is expected within weeks, and Hong Kong is due to detail its fund and family-office measures. Bank of Singapore's donor-advised fund structure will be tested against a philanthropic capital pool the Wealth Management Institute expects to grow fivefold by 2030, while SICO Wealth's Abu Dhabi launch remains subject to regulatory approval.
