CGS International adds new hires to asset management team

5 min read

CGS International has welcomed two new members to its asset management team - Phua Zhenghao as group head of investments and Grace Yan as senior portfolio manager.

Zhenghao brings over 15 years of investment experience in leading multi-asset portfolios in global institutions. He last managed approximately SGD 40 billion ($30.9 billion) in multi-asset insurance portfolios at Income Insurance as head of investment strategy, leading global asset allocation, strengthening risk-based decision frameworks, and implementing derivatives overlays to enhance resilience and capital efficiency. Throughout his career, he has consistently delivered tactical outperformance and spearheaded portfolio construction and performance analytics to drive insights and innovation.

Zhenghao will oversee the group’s public markets investment strategies, ensure portfolio alignment with broader business objectives, and serve as a key voice with institutional clients and stakeholders. His blend of analytical depth, strategic foresight and collaborative leadership places him well to strengthen and scale CGS International’s public markets platform.

With over 17 years of experience in Asian equities, Yan is widely recognised for her expertise in Asia’s (ex-Japan) small- and mid-cap equities, built on a career that spans
portfolio management and fundamental equity research. Prior to joining CGS International, she was with Nikko Asset Management (now Amova Asset Management)
for over 11 years. As a senior portfolio manager, she led the Nikko AM Shenton Emerging Enterprise Discovery Fund and the Nikko AM Asian Small Mid Equity Fund—awardwinning strategies known for uncovering undervalued, under-researched companies across Asia ex-Japan.

At CGS International, she will apply her proven bottomup, research-driven philosophy to play a key role in advancing the firm’s equity and thematic strategies, supporting its efforts to deliver differentiated growth opportunities across Asia.

The appointments of Zhenghao and Tan underscore CGS International’s commitment to deepening its bench of senior investment professionals and enhancing long-term value creation for clients.

James Ong, group head of asset management, CGS International, said, “Zhenghao and Tan are invaluable additions to our asset management team; their appointments strengthen our asset management capabilities as we build out both our private and public equity platforms. Leveraging the elevated capabilities of the team, we will roll out exciting initiatives to help our clients benefit from ASEAN’s capital markets soon.”
