Crédit Agricole CIB expands private capital coverage in Japan

5 min read

Crédit Agricole CIB is expanding its Private Capital Group in Japan with the appointment of Oliver Matthew as Head of Private Capital Group for Japan, effective 21 August 2026.

Based in Tokyo, Oliver leads the local expansion of the Private Capital Group, the bank’s dedicated global coverage team serving financial sponsors, private equity funds and infrastructure funds. He reports locally to Benjamin Lamberg, Senior Country Officer for Japan, and functionally to Luyi Shen, Head of Private Capital Group for Asia Pacific.

The newly created role underscores the bank's commitment to deepening its local coverage of financial sponsors and private capital funds in one of the world's most dynamic private equity markets, building on the bank's strong momentum in Japan, including the inauguration of its new office at Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower in April 2026, which marked 80 years of Crédit Agricole's presence in the country. It also strengthens Crédit Agricole CIB’s ability to support global financial sponsors’ growing focus on Japanese assets in their investment portfolios.

Oliver has over two decades of financial industry experience in Asia, with deep expertise in Japan's institutional investment landscape. He joins Crédit Agricole CIB from CITIC CLSA, where he notably served as Head of Institutional Equities for Japan, and as Country Head for Japan.
