HSBC Private Bank strengthens Asia wealth coverage with senior leadership hires

5 min read

HSBC Private Bank has expanded leadership across Global India, Singapore and Offshore China as it strengthens its cross-border wealth proposition for entrepreneurs, business-owning families and high-net-worth clients across Asia and the Middle East.

HSBC Private Bank’s entrepreneurial wealth proposition is designed to connect clients’ business and personal wealth needs end-to-end, from supporting business growth, financing and liquidity events, through to investment management, wealth planning and succession. The appointments enhance how HSBC Private Bank is structured and connected across markets, helping teams collaborate more effectively and making HSBC’s international network easier for clients to access.

Connecting the Global India franchise across markets

Following the appointment of Gautam Anand as head of Global India earlier this year, HSBC Private Bank is further building leadership depth across its Global India franchise in Asia and the Middle East.

Global India is structured as an international franchise spanning India and key wealth hubs including Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK. This structure enables teams to work more closely around clients with multi-geography needs, combining local relationships with HSBC’s international reach, particularly relevant for entrepreneurs and business-owning families, whose corporate and personal wealth priorities are often closely linked.

As part of this, Vivek Pandohi has been appointed to lead Global India in the Middle East, while Harjeet Singh has joined as Senior Desk Head for Global India in Singapore, enhancing senior coverage across two of the franchise’s key international wealth hubs.

Vivek Pandohi has been appointed head of Middle East – Global India, reporting to Gautam Anand, head of Global India, HSBC Private Bank.

Vivek brings more than 23 years of experience with HSBC across Asia and the Middle East. Over the past decade, he has held senior leadership roles within HSBC Private Bank in the UAE, most recently leading the UAE Global India & Expat business.

In his new role, Vivek will lead Global India coverage across Middle East markets, with a focus on expanding coverage across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and further strengthening coordination across HSBC Private Bank’s Middle East teams and the wider Global India network.

Harjeet Singh joins HSBC Private Bank with more than two decades of private banking and wealth management experience.

Prior to joining HSBC, he spent more than nine years at Bank of Singapore, most recently as managing director and market head, leading the Global South Asia business. He has also held senior leadership positions across international private banks, bringing deep expertise in serving resident and non-resident Indian clients, cross-border wealth management and leadership development.

Based in Singapore Harjeet will lead one of HSBC Private Bank’s Global India Desks in Singapore, with increased focus on growing the Global India business in the region and further strengthening the bank’s capabilities in a key strategic client segment. He will report to Gautam Anand, head of Global India, HSBC Private Bank.

Strengthening Singapore and China coverage

Alongside the appointments in Global India, HSBC Private Bank is strengthening its leadership across Singapore and Offshore China, further building the market expertise and international connectivity available to clients.

Lay Hong Tan joins as desk Head, Singapore Market. Lay Hong brings more than 30 years of experience in the financial industry, including 15 years in private banking.

Previously market team head at UBS Singapore, Lay Hong has extensive experience advising Greater China clients, particularly those from Taiwan. Her career spans equity research, discretionary portfolio management, financial advisory and private banking leadership.

At HSBC, Lay Hong will lead a Singapore Domestic coverage team, focusing on Singapore UHNW and HNW families as well as Mandarin-speaking clients in the region.

Jay See joins as desk head, Offshore China Market (Singapore). Jay joins HSBC with 18 years of private banking experience serving Chinese clients in Singapore.

Most recently a China Coverage Specialist at Credit Suisse/UBS, Jay has extensive experience delivering cross-border wealth solutions and collaborating across markets to support complex client needs.

He will lead the Offshore China Market desk in Singapore, strengthening connectivity across Greater China and Southeast Asia while further enhancing HSBC’s China franchise.

Tommy Leung, head of Private Bank, South Asia, HSBC, said: “Entrepreneurs and business-owning families are increasingly international – their businesses may be in one market, their investments in another, and family members across several more. Our job is to make those borders easier for our clients to navigate. That is why how we organise and connect our teams matters. Global India brings together our capabilities across India and key international wealth hubs, allowing our bankers to work more closely across markets around the client. By strengthening leadership in the Middle East and Singapore, alongside our continued investment in Singapore and China coverage, we are building deeper market expertise while making the breadth of HSBC’s international network more accessible to our clients.”

In addition to these leadership appointments, HSBC Private Bank has recently welcomed several experienced Relationship Managers across its Singapore, Australia International, Taiwan and Indonesia teams, further strengthening its client coverage and capabilities across the region.
