iCapital survey finds advisers shifting from alternatives access to implementation
iCapital, the global fintech company shaping the future of investing, today released findings from its second annual Global Advisor Survey, which found that adviser demand for alternative investments continues to strengthen as wealth management firms focus on the tools, processes and infrastructure needed to support broader adoption.
The survey found that 89% of advisers plan to maintain or increase allocations to alternatives over the next 12 months, while 39% expect to increase allocations, up from 14% in 2025. Additionally, 84% of advisers report client interest has maintained or increased over the past two years. These findings suggest alternatives continue to gain traction across wealth management despite a more cautious economic outlook.
As alternatives become a larger part of client portfolios, adviser priorities are evolving. While access and education remain important, firms are increasingly focused on portfolio construction, risk assessment, reporting, compliance and operational efficiency. The research points to growing demand for solutions that help advisers incorporate alternatives across a broader range of clients and portfolios.
“Demand for alternative investments continues to grow, but adviser needs are evolving,” said Gary Gallagher, president of iCapital. “As alternatives become more integrated into client portfolios, advisers are increasingly looking for the tools, insights, and support needed to evaluate, implement and manage these investments effectively. Our 2026 Global Advisor Survey findings suggest the conversation is shifting beyond access and education toward portfolio construction, risk assessment, reporting, and the capabilities needed to deliver alternatives across a broader range of clients.”
