SBI acquires 20% stake in Ajaib to expand digital wealth
SBI Holdings Co., Ltd. (SBI Group) has made a strategic investment in Ajaib Group, which operates Indonesia’s largest online integrated investment platform, offering stocks, crypto assets, payment services and foreign exchange (FX) through its subsidiaries.
Through the investment, SBI Group acquired a 20% stake in Ajaib Group, making it an equity-method affiliate of SBI Holdings.
The Ajaib Group, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, began operations as an online securities company and has since evolved into a comprehensive investment and fund management platform handling both traditional financial assets and digital assets. Today, it is supported by millions of individual investors and offers investment opportunities in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, crypto assets, stablecoins, commodities, and FX both domestically and internationally, as well as payment and deposit services. For corporate clients, we offer OTC-type stablecoin payment services, providing solutions and liquidity tailored to the individual needs of Indonesian companies and institutional investors. In addition to deep expertise in both investment products and digital assets, Ajaib Group possesses a strong brand and a nationwide customer base, giving it a unique advantage in building tokenised financial infrastructure in Indonesia and the Asia region.
The SBI Group owns cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide, including SBI VC Trade (Japan) and Coinhako (Singapore), and operates a crypto asset market maker business through B2C2 in the UK. Additionally, to diversify digital asset products, SBI Global Asset Management, in collaboration with Singapore's DigiFT, is offering the world's first publicly on-chain Japanese equity fund, and in partnership with Singapore's Startale Group, issuing Japan's first trust-type stablecoin, JPYSC, with SBI Shinsei Trust Bank as trustee. We are promoting various initiatives to promote global digital asset adoption, including developing Strium, an L1 blockchain for finance.
By combining the strengths of the Ajaib Group and SBI Group, the two companies will promote the adoption of digital assets in Asia.
Yoshitaka Kitao, Chairman and President of SBI, said: "In an era of advanced tokenisation, the importance of global infrastructure for digital assets has never been greater. The SBI Group has established the SBI APAC Digital Economic Zone Initiative, which aims to build next-generation digital financial infrastructure and contribute to the development of APAC. As a foundation, it is establishing a network of digital asset exchanges worldwide, mainly in Southeast Asian countries. As a platform that handles both traditional financial products and digital assets, the Ajaib Group is a perfect match for SBI Group's vision, and we are very pleased to establish this strategic partnership.
Anderson Sumarli, Co-founder and CEO of Ajaib Group, said: "We are honoured to welcome SBI Group as a long-term strategic partner. Southeast Asia is home to the next billion people who will begin using financial services, and their financial experiences will be shaped by digital assets, tokenised RWA, and AI. Like Chairman Kitao, we are confident that the infrastructure that will support that future is now being built. And when it comes to sharing this vision, there is no partner better than the SBI Group. By working together, we will accelerate our mission to guide a new generation toward modern financial services, not just in Indonesia but around the world.
